Media and journalism play a vital role in shaping perceptions about agri-food systems and rural livelihoods. This topic explores how media and communication services can help farmers and rural communities respond to emerging risks and disasters. It also covers the transition of traditional media in the digital age and the collaboration between media, extension, and advisory services to promote sustainable agri-food systems and rural development. Key issues to address under this topic include but are not limited to:
- Agricultural and rural media and journalism are being transformed by various structural, financial, and political factors. Transitions that facilitate interaction and enhance knowledge sharing and learning among different actors and sectors.
- Collaboration of agricultural media and communication with extension and advisory systems.
- Media strategies to assist farmers, agricultural and rural stakeholders in effectively responding to emerging and sudden disasters and risks, such as health hazards (e.g. microplastics, vector-borne disease), fires, and floods
- Sustainability of agricultural media and rural communication services in the age of the digital media revolution. Transition of traditional media, such as fact sheets, magazine, and their support for farmers and stakeholders in sustainable agri-food system and rural development
- Knowledge and skills for media professionals to help scientists and other stakeholders translate their knowledge into actionable formats. Collaboration of actors to support translating knowledge into action.
